DescriptionsSentinelle is a discret program (a daemon) that runs under Linux, and some other Unixes (but without all functionnalities enabled). Sentinelle's primary aim is to provide a simple way to decide what to do when certain sensors (such as CPU temperature or FAN speed) reach a given value. The type of action that can be taken, range from a system log (using syslog), up to a shell command like shutdown the computer, and this way avoids a too hot microprocessor to be destroyed due to a fan failure or lack of air conditionned. For now, Sentinelle is only composed of a daemon named sentinelled. This daemon has been optimised as much as possible to consume the minimum of CPU and memory ressources. It can thus run in background without making any change to the load average. Some configuration file samples are given from simple ones to more complex ones, it is anyway easy to customize them, or even to make your own configuration files. By the way, you are welcome to send me back your configuration files, if they are interesting, I will publish them in the sentinelle package. |
